Winterlicious is upon us again! The Toronto cullinary celebration runs every year year in the months of February (Winterlicious) and July (Summerlicious) offering diners an opportunity to dine at select participating restaurants at a set price (See listing of participating restaurants and menus HERE) Each year many people partake in the Prix-Fixe menu promotion, as it allows diners to try out different restaurants they otherwise wouldn't. Winterlicious this year will run from January 31 - February 13, so make sure you get those reservations in!

To kick off my Winterlicious visits this year, I had the pleasure of sampling both the Lunch ($20) and Dinner ($35) menu at King Street Social, located at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on King (@HyattonKing). While there are few hotel restaurants that have defined themselves as distinguished dining destinations, the menu at King Street Social may very well put the Hyatt Regency as a visit-worthy dining location.

We had a mix and match of dishes from both the lunch and dinner menus. Being the piggy that I am, I ended up trying most dishes with favourites from both menus. I really liked the Sweet Potato Lentil Soup as it is a hearty but soft-spoken soup. In contrast, the Red Bell Pepper Bisque was a table favourite for those preferring bolder, more impressionable flavours. The Grilled Black Tiger Prawns salad was probably my starter of choice. The combination of the tiger prawns, leafy sprouts, and sweet soy ginger reduction, was delicious. As far as the mains go, the Sable Fish was hands down my favourite. Cooked to the exact point of perfection, served on a beautiful bed of cannellini beans. I don't think there was on person at the table who didn't commend on the beans! The Slow Braised Lamb Shank was also winner for me. It's a heavier dish, served along side string beans and thick chewy gnocchi, making this the hungryman's option. The last main I'll comment on, is the vegetarian option, Braised Green Lentils, Baby Spinach, grilled vegetables served on a crunchy tostada chip. I'm by no means a vegetarian, but I definitely wouldn't mind ordering this for a nice light lunch.

This Winterlicious Lunch and Dinner menu will be offered at King Street Social Kitchen & Bar until February 13, 2014, for $20 and $35 dollars respectively. Make reservations here.
